My Philosophy of Education
I do not value education more now that I am in the teaching profession; rather I have begun to realize how significantly it can influence an individual and the world. From preschool to college, people are involved in this world of opportunity where they are introduced to new information and people. Schools allow students to become an expert in every field: students are biologists, painters, literary critics, architects, chemists, historians, and authors. In addition, schools bring people of all ages together to promote interpersonal relating through collaboration, patience, and respect. Education allows students to improve their life and have the power to control their future.
Education is a world that offers opportunity to all. In my classroom, I want my students to feel like they are given an opportunity to succeed and learn in all subjects and relationships. I believe school goes beyond just “getting the facts.” Children spend the majority of their day and life in the classroom or at school (7 hours a day, 5 days a week, and 10 months out of the year). Schools need to be valued and recognized as more than just an information center or babysitter; this is a place where the future begins. Children and young adults are learning about how to work with one another through problem solving and planning, which in turn teaches students basic relationship behaviors: patience, respect, and cooperation. Schools prepare students for what our world and society expects of their actions and decisions. Most importantly, schools are a place where children and adults are allowed to safely explore information from the past as well as the unknown. Not only are teachers providing students with the information and skills necessary to participate in all subjects, but also they facilitate an environment of exploration and innovation. Education allows students to develop innovative possibilities that can better our society.
I believe education opens doors to many possibilities and is the foundation upon which our society depends on. Whether a person is in school or at a job, every day they are learning and becoming more educated. As a society, we must remember to protect and encourage education to all people, especially our youngest members. They are the future and their decisions will change our world.
