How can I volunteer in the classroom?
I appreciate all volunteers in room 21 whether it be helping in the classroom, assisting at recess, attending field trips, or cutting out materials.
You will need a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test and clearance forms from the office. Please know that this prescreening is in place for the safety of all children at Angier.
What if my child is sick and can not come to school?
Keep your child at home if they are symptomatic (has a temperature/illness (100+ fever, throwing up, pink eye, lice, sore throat, headache, cough, diarrhea, etc.)— Call the school to report your child’s absence.

What do I need to know about homework?
Homework = Dedication, Discipline, and Practice
Every week, students will receive homework on Thursday and are expected to complete and turn it in onWednesday. *Students will have the weekend to work on homework!!
Family Fun Homework: Every month, students will receive a list of “Family Fun” activity choices. As a family, choose one activity a week to do together and create memories. Turn in the sheet dated on the last Friday of the month for extra Dojo Points!
Daily Reading: Students are recommended to read 20-30 minutes every night with an adult or TO an adult.
Math in a Minute: TWO pages of 10 math problems (each). This will help students build a foundation of math concepts throughout the year. (Required Turn-in) Dojo Points * **LATE or UNFINISHED work will require losing Fun Friday until work is finished.***
Other resources: Raz-kids.com: This is a reading website with books at each student’s level. getEpic.com: This reading and learning app is filled with digital books and educational videos.
What is the behavior program in room 21? Rules: As a class, the students create promises for our classroom community on the first day of school. The Angier Way: Honor Self: Make smart decisions Honor Peace: Be a good listener Honor Others: Be kind to others Honor Environment: Keep our school and campus clean Honor Achievement: Always do your best
Consequences: Students who do not honor one of these Classroom Promises will go through the following steps:
Warning: Name on Mrs. M’s board. Students have an opportunity to erase their name based on their efforts to stay on task, participate in discussions, and keep to the Classroom Promises
Check next to their name: No Fun Friday The student misses Fun Friday and considers their actions. They will have a one-on-one discussion with me explaining their behavior: Why it happened? How will they prevent it from happening?
2 checks next to their name, NO recess & NO Fun Friday and a phone call home or
a referral if serious enough. I do not often write referrals and I would prefer not to since they are documents kept on school files. However, any evidence of SEXUAL HARASSMENT, WEAPONS, DRUG USE OR POSSESSION, FIGHTS, BULLYING, CYBER CRIMES OR INTIMIDATION will be met with an immediate referral sent to the office. The parent will discuss the issue with the principal/counselor before the child returns to class.
!!!Rewards!!! Hard work, participation, helping others, and following rules is a reward in its self. However, I do believe students should be recognized for their above and beyond efforts. Group Rewards: As a class we can earn parties based on our collaboration and cooperation. When we fill our Noodle Jar we will have a classroom party! Individual rewards: Each student has Dojo Points. Every student has an opportunity to receive a fun activity and reward based on their points.
Room 21 is our FAMILY and I expect and require ALL students entering my class to maintain and follow these promises.
